Himalayan Megaquake from PBS NOVA
On April 25, 2015, Nepal was rocked by a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.8. It was followed by more than 400 aftershocks, including one of magnitude 7.2 on May 12. While the death toll of roughly 9,000 was relatively small for such a devastating quake, the real story is the massive devastation across the country which left some 2 million people homeless. Reconstruction will take decades. In August, 2015, after months of helping with relief efforts from afar, Jake returned to Nepal with a team from PBS-NOVA to help tell the story of the earthquake, what scientists have learned about it and what it means for the future, and how Nepal – one of the poorest nations on earth – can rebuild. This program, Himalayan Megaquake, aired nationwide on PBS on January 27, 2016, and now is available for streaming.
