I collect them when I come upon them.
I rabidly underline all my books, making note of powerful quotations from the author, and later transcribing those to a database on my computer.
I use these quotes for personal inspiration, to accent documents, newsletters, and materials which go out of my office, and to underscore key points in my motivational keynote presentations.
Two of my favorite recent finds are:
A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.
– John Barrymore
You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.
– Rabindranath Tagore
This morning, I came across a posting on the Art of the Soul blog by Mark Jones with some wonderful quotations to start the day, the week, the month, and to continue lighting the fires of inspiration as you climb your mountains in life. (Be sure to check the other posts on the Art of the Soul blog for some other great quotes!)
Here is the inspiration:
Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb. You may never reach the summit; for that you will be forgiven. But if you don’t make at least one serious attempt to get above the snow-line, years later you will find yourself lying on your deathbed, and all you will feel is emptiness.
– Huch Macleod
Those who do not create the future they want must endure the future they get.
– Draper L. Kaufman, Jr.
The biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at doing what they most enjoy.
– Malcolm S. Forbes
Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.
– Oliver Wendell Holmes, Former U.S. Supreme Court justice
A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder.
– Thomas Carlyle
– Jake Norton is an Everest climber, guide, photographer, writer, and motivational speaker from Colorado.
