The Northern Picket Range, North Cascades, Washington

In 1958, my great uncle, Roe Duke Watson, made the first ascent of the West Peak of Mount Fury in the remote and rugged Pickets Range of Washington State. It’s a range I’ve always wanted to visit, and footsteps I’ve longed to follow.

This week, I’ll get the chance: Today I set off with David Morton, Jeremiah Watt, and Sid Pattison to try and climb the West Peak of Fury via the Mongo Ridge. It’s an impressive route, climbed just once (so far as we can tell) solo by Wayne Wallace in 2006.

It should be a great adventure in one of the most remote and rugged wilderness areas in North America. Please follow along by checking the hashtag #mongofury2014, and look for updates on the trip and climb through Eddie Bauer.
