Some Christmas Thoughts
On this day – Christmas 2014 – I’ve been thinking about how this holiday is increasingly more about receiving than giving; about self-interest over compassion; about plastic things rather than rock-solid love; indulgent gluttony over logical austerity; consumption over conservation.
While I don’t consider myself particularly religious, nor much of a scholar of Christian theology, I doubt whether the current iteration of Christmas is what Jesus would have hoped for.
Anyway, I cane upon this poem by Ganga White, and thought it worthy of a share today.
Enjoy, Happy Holidays, and an early Happy New Year!
What if our religion was each other?
If our practice was our life?
If prayer was our words?
What if the Temple was the Earth?
If forests were our church?
If holy water—the rivers, lakes and oceans?
What if meditation was our relationships?
If the Teacher was life?
If wisdom was self-knowledge?
If love was the center of our being…
